Keep announcements working on Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO, realme and OnePlus

These phones save battery by stopping background apps a few minutes after the screen goes off. UPI Alert needs three switches turned on to stay alive. The in-app setup opens the right screens; this page shows the same steps with the exact menu names.

The three switches every phone needs

  1. Notification access. Settings → Apps → Special app access → Notification access → UPI Alert → Allow. This is how the app hears payments.
  2. Battery: no restrictions. Settings → Apps → UPI Alert → Battery → Unrestricted (or “No restrictions”).
  3. Autostart. Lets the app start itself after a reboot or after the phone cleans memory. The menu name differs by brand; see below.

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO (MIUI and HyperOS)

vivo and iQOO (Funtouch and OriginOS)

OPPO and realme (ColorOS and realme UI)

OnePlus (OxygenOS)

Samsung

Check that it worked

Open UPI Alert. The home screen status card should read “Listening for payments”. Tap Test announcement in Settings to hear the voice, then lock the phone and have a friend send ₹1 on any UPI app. If the announcement plays with the screen off, you are done. If not, the status card names the setting that is still off. The troubleshooting guide covers the remaining cases.

Questions

The app was working and then stopped after a few days. Why?

A system update or a battery-saver prompt often resets the Autostart or battery setting. Open the app; the status card shows which switch went off, and one tap takes you to it.

Menu names on my phone are different.

Brands rename these screens between versions. Search inside Settings for Autostart, Battery or Notification access, or use the in-app setup, which opens the correct screen for your phone.

Does the always-on notification cost battery?

A persistent notification itself costs nothing. It is Android's way of allowing the listener to stay alive.
